TEACHING STATEMENT

INSPIRE

My goal is to create an educational and engaging environment that equips students to reach their fullest potential and inspires them to become active participants in the classroom so they may further their creative development and artistic maturity to ensure much success in their professional pursuits and personal goals.

ENGAGE

As an educator I constantly strive to provide students with enriching materials that will stimulate their minds and stir thought processes by inventing scenarios or dilemmas where the class can arrive at a collaborative solution. This means focusing on engagement and participation by introducing the class to provocative topics where I can facilitate open-ended discussions that will lead students to exchange ideas and opinions and become fully engaged in learning.

EDUCATE

When dealing with students who have misconceptions it is important to discover the reasons why they occur. I also believe it is necessary to allow students the opportunity to develop their investigative skills. Supplying questions for students to answer is elementary, students grasp content better when they are taught how to analyze a topic and formulate their own questions. This allows them to cultivate their own insight into the subject matter and further develop their ability to research, interpret, and apply information. Additionally, it is important to recognize the opportunity to learn from students; by simply addressing their needs or actively listening, students can introduce new techniques, concepts and knowledge previously unknown.

I look forward to the next steps in my professional development as an academic, and the challenges and education that will follow.
